Revenge porn site operator Kevin Bollaert received an 18-year sentence for distributing over 10,000 images of embarrassing revenge porn submitted by jerky ex-boyfriends. The scam went like this: first angry ex- boyfriends submitted pics or videos of their ex-girlfriends (and in some cases boyfriends) to ugotposted.com, where Boullaert posted their full names, ages, Facebook pages, and even home addresses and phone numbers to add to the public humiliation. When people complained, and in some cases begged, to have their photos and videos removed, he set up another site called changemyreputation.com and charged them up to $350 to take the images down. He made tens of thousands of dollars doing this, according to prosecutors. When word got out that there was money in this, other copycat sites followed.

“Sitting behind a computer, committing what is essentially a cowardly and criminal act, will not shield predators from the law or jail,” the judge in the case said. “We will continue to be vigilant and investigate and prosecute those who commit these deplorable acts.”

Bollaert, 28, was sentenced for identity theft and extortion in San Diego Superior Court on Friday. It is the first case of “cyber sexual exploitation” in US history. Women who testified at his sentencing told the court how his actions ruined their lives as they lost jobs and personal relationships.  It’s a great reminder to just say no next time someone says “Hey honey, let’s film this.”
