This week People Magazine made Dwayne Johnson their “Sexiest Man Alive.” When asked why he thought he was chosen, he said “Sense of humor.” And bulging muscles, a beautiful smile, and being a movie star didn’t hurt either. Oh, and he also has a sexy laugh.
Studies by evolutionary psychologists say that men who are funny and have “good personalities” get laid the most. And it starts in middle school. In one study, tween and teen girls were asked what qualities they thought made boys cute, and they said “Tall, funny, and a good personality”, in that order.
Other non-superficial qualities that make a man sexy (according to science) are hyper-masculinity, a deep voice, confidence, and humility. Not having anything to prove is always hot, as is being a gentleman, (according to me.)
Other “Sexiest Men Alive” have included Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matthew McConaughy, Keanu Reeves, Sean Connery, Bradley Cooper, Johnny Depp, Chris Hemsworth, and David Beckham. Ryan Gosling was up for the title but turned it down.
One study found that women considered “empathy” to be sexy in a man. And another study found that men with a stubble/3-day growth on their face did it for them.
Ellen Degeneres called Johnson “a sexy hunk of man meat.”
