Covergirl Cosmetics has announced it’s first coverboy, 17-year-old beauty vlogger James Charles. He joined covergirl beauty Katy Perry for a recent shoot to promote the company’s “So Lashy!” mascara campaign that airs later this month.
In a statement Covergirl said, “All of our CoverGirls are role models and boundary-breakers, fearlessly expressing themselves, standing up for what they believe, and redefining what it means to be beautiful. James Charles is no exception.”
The teen alt make-up artist is self taught and is a senior in high school. He rose to fame on YouTube by creating videos teaching both men and women how to do their makeup. But his internet “breakthrough” happened when his “fierce” high school yearbook photo went viral. He is know for his wild and fun make-up, such as blue lips with blue glitter under the eyes. “I truly hope that this shows that anyone and everyone can wear makeup,”he says.
The new coverboy will follow in the footsteps of models such as Christie Brinkley and Cybill Shepherd who were covergirls in the late 1960’s.
