MIT Survey Reveals 17% of Female Students Sexually Assaulted

It looks like the science nerds at MIT lead the way in sexual assault, according to a new survey, admirably released by the school itself. 11,000 students participated in the anonymous survey which reported that 17% of women had experienced “sexual assault”, as defined by the survey — “Unwanted sexual behaviors involving use of force, physical threat, or incapacitation.”

11% of the girls answered “yes” to the question “Have you been raped or sexually assaulted?” As with all sex surveys and sex itself, many students weren’t quite sure what constituted “rape.” And less than 5% of these incidents were reported to anybody. We applaud MIT for initiating the study and reporting it, which is a step in the right direction, and wish more schools would do the same. But in addition to teaching classes such as “Design of Electromechanical Robotic Systems” or “Relativity and Astrophysics”, how about a class in “How to Get Laid Without Raping People?”
