Here’s one of the riskiest, scariest sex trends we’ve seen in awhile. “Sex Roulette” parties are a thing in Spain now, apparently. These masked sex parties, usually attended by gay men, involve one person who is secretly HIV positive and a party of people who have unprotected group sex. The “thrill” is that nobody know who is HIV positive.
We here at sexpert are sex positive, but not positive about having unprotected sex with a group of strangers, including one who is hiding their HIV positive status. From a psychological standpoint, the rationale is that it is throbbingly exciting. But for the adrenaline junkies who attend these parties, we suggest they should go cliff diving or jump out of a plane; it would be much safer.
The group sex parties are also know as “blue” parties, where participants take Truvada, an anti-viral pill that lessons transmission of HIV by at least 86%, which some recent studies reporting even higher percentages of effectiveness.
Sex therapist Kate Morley says the thrill of the sex roulette parties is the high risk of the scene. “Partygoers think the higher the risk, the stronger the thrill. In the case of sex parties, the intense high is that you combine orgasm with high adrenaline.”
